I’m calling this “AI Assisted Compositing”. I decided it was time for a new cover page for Facebook. I had an image that I previously created with DALLE image generation in Microsoft Designer that I wanted to use.
The original image was in a square, 1:1 format, and needed to be manipulated to fit Facebook’s widescreen 16:9 format, so the next step was to use Runway to ‘extend’ the canvas. Fortunately, widescreen 16:9 is a standard format in Runway’s “AI Magic Tools”, so I uploaded the image and the app provided four images. I selected the one I liked the best:
Next, I needed to create an avatar on Facebook. I didn’t want to let Facebook control avatar integration, but I did use Facebook’s selectable avatar creation app, and screen captured a few that I liked:
Then, I opened up Microsoft Designer and created what I needed from a blank canvas, 1920px x 1080px. After uploading the Runway expanded image, I copied and pasted the avatar I thought best ‘matched’ the color scheme, and then used Designer’s remove background function to quickly remove the background. Finally, I dragged the avatar to the position that seemed best, and, Voila!
Silly and simple, but lots of fun..
